Several tomb of the ancients locations exist in the world. It is recommended the player has a large inventory of torches and equips these to as many companions as possible before venturing into any tomb of the ancients.

Combat in a tomb of the ancients[]

Unlike combat elsewhere, the combat map is pitch black and companions can only attack enemies or use abilities when targets are illuminated. These are several ways to light your way in the combat map:

  • Characters equipped with torches provide constant light
  • Incendiary flasks, stylish bows, and similar weapons with a fire effect can be used to create fires to illuminate specific areas
  • Enlightened Opinions (Path knowledge in Mysteries and Wisdom) increases the light range of torches and gives characters without torches a small source of light, enough to remove the enemy's damage buff while standing next to them
  • Rat Stew will add surprised to the enemies, allowing you to glimps their positions at the start of combat

Exploring ancient tombs[]

Each tomb has a Sarcophagos containing an ancient relic fragment. These can be turned into legendary weapons at the lectern. The final path is usually blocked by a door which requires a scholar to enter 3 Glyphs to unlock it. Glyphs are scattered in vaious rooms of the tomb. Additionally each tomb contains 3 codices, which are deciphered by the player at the lectern and grant a fair amount of knowledge points.

Exploring a new room within a tomb costs 3 light and 1 light to return to an already explored room. Each torch provides 6 light (7 with Enlightened Opinions). Torches count as off-hand weapons, thus Left-Handed Specialists from the path of Power and Glory will reduces the resources required to craft enough torches drastically.

Each tomb has a 3x3 sliding puzzle. Solving them rewards you with a Rune and some knowledge.

Maps of the ancient tombs[]

Tomb maps are ordered by how many rooms they have.

Tiltren Tomb[]

Usually the first and smallest to explore. Entering the first room to the north and interacting with the statue unlocks the Bard profession, interacting with the puzzle to the south unlocks the Scholar profession.
