Knowledge Ability[]

The knowledge progress bar tracks the player's progress towards earning a knowledge point, which in turn can be spent to learn a skill, recipe, or blueprint from the tables below. Knowledge can be gained by:

  • Discovering a new location on the World Map - 25 points
  • Placing a scholar to work at the Lectern camp item during a rest - 35 point
  • Equipping companions with the Pocketbook backpack accessory during a rest - 5 points
  • When crafting an item for the first time a first craft bonus is given - 40 points

Basic Knowledge[]

Each of these Orders costs 1 Knowledge Point to learn.

Ability Description Troop Bonus Comments
Run You can run for short periods of time. Perfect to get away from pursuers. Hold SHIFT to run (in overworld) Allows you to outrun hostile groups in the overworld for a limited time. One of the best unlocks in the game.

Smooth Talk Your Companions become great spokesperson who can talk anyone into joining their ranks Recruitment cost of Companions reduced by 10% Affects both Krown and Influence Costs. Low-value pick though, unless you are constantly letting people die.
Feat Makers Your Companions are ready to fight and shine with glory on the battlefield Maximum Valour Points increased by 1 Additional VP are always good.
Offer Hunters Your Companions are bribing the Bounty Emissary to get more contracts Increases by 1 the number of Contracts displayed on the List of Bounties Minor quality of life choice.
Locations Markers Your troop can add objective markers to the map Adding markers to the map with right click Minor quality of life choice. Will show a little flag on the perimeter of the overland map.
Artful Dodgers Your Companions are honing their criminal skills and learning to master the art of stealth The Suspicious Meter depletes 10% faster. Suspicion will drop at a 1/hour rate.

Career Plans Allows you to have enhanced control over your Companions' evolution when they level up. You can spend Influence to add 1 extra + to an Aptitude when leveling up. Spend 10 Influence add an extra + to Aptitude of your choice, or 40 Influence for ++. Among best Order in game.
Restoration Your troop improves their armour maintenance skills. Repair materials restore 5 additional Armour point High-value pick.
Fast Training Your troop knows how to welcome new recruits with care and attention. New Recruits gain 1 Aptitude Point Extremely high-value pick if chosen early. Required: Smooth Talk
Bountiful Bounties Your troop is increasing their organizational skills and seeks to accumulate more bounties. Increases by 1 the number of Missions you can accept at the List of Bounties Minor quality of life pick.
Miscellaneous Tanning Your Companions no longer have any qualms about treating a human like an animal You can now produce Leather from human corpses Required: Cannibalism

Burning Mastery Your troop is developing a strong taste for seared flesh. Increases burning effectiveness (+5% of target's HP) Required: Acidic Oil Concentrate
Drinking Buddies Best friends can get drunk together to forget their woes. On the Relationships screen, two best friends can use the Buy a Drink action to cancel one negative trait each for 300 Influence Incredibly niche and almost impossible to use, as improving relationships is random.
Misanthropic Troop Companions who are on bad terms can toughen up by aggravating their quarrels even more. On the Relationships screen, two enemies can use the Insult action to gain the Sociopath train for 300 Influence. Sociopath gives a unit +5% damage for every bad relationship they have in the troop. Using this ability requires at least a -1 relationship and advances it to -3 (enemies). This can easily be attained by "accidentally" shooting your allies with an AoE attack a couple times in combat. Good damage boost for combat but remember to keep enemies apart in camp if possible.
Methodical Exploration The talented explorers you are can mark points of interest on the map.

Deep Knowledge[]

Each of these Orders costs 3 Knowledge Points to learn.

Seasoned Travellers Your Companions travelled so much that they can now walk longer before getting tired. Reduces the speed at which the Troop's fatigue stacks by 10%. Less fatigue means Camping less, reducing Food and Wages outlays. High value pick.
Skillful Extraction Your Companions are skilled enough to gather several samples on plague-infested outgrowths. Plague-Infested outgrowth sample obtained from each rat nest growth increased by 1. The increase is very minor compared to the cost of Knowledge Points.
Specialized Training Your Companions are quick learners. Path challenges worth at least 2 PP grant 1 more. Path challenges worth at least 2 PP grant 1 more. Incredibly high-value pick early. Hitting certain Path breakpoints leads to massive increases in power earlier.
Optimized Gear Your Companions know how to increase their armour's efficiency by wearing matching helmets. Wearing matching armour and helmet increases their Armour and Guard bonuses by 10%. NOTE: Currently bugged to also apply to enemies!
Good Communication Your troop is organized so well that relationships grow more easily. Troop relationships improve 15% faster. Low-value pick.
Experienced Gatherers Your Companions can recognize plant varieties and make the most of what they find along the way. Every time you pick flowers, you also gather Hemp. Extra Hemp is not worth 3 Knowledge Points.
